This week there was an earthquake at 12:30 at night. I’m sure you’re dying to know if I felt it......nope I was sound asleep. I have yet to feel an earthquake and yet to be robbed what luck knock on wood. Anyway this week was alright nobody got baptized because they didn’t go to church, so luckily this week they did go to church so we will get them baptized.
I think I’m going to get changed here in 3 weeks well that’s what the zone leaders are telling me. I love this ward it is super cool, but I will keep working hard here even though it’s very probable that I will get changed. Anyway this week was good we worked hard and found some great news. We had 5 investigators go to church. It was cool, but we have 4 investigators with marriage issues. (Not married or not divorced!!) Ah quiero vomitar! I hate marriage issues it’s kind of rough, because you have to play this stupid love game to figure out if they want to get married or break up, and it takes forever because people don’t want to be committed. I hope the United States never gets to be like this. Almost nobody is married here, it was a miracle that Luis was married now we are going to baptize his wife, so that’s alright.
I’m going to send you a bunch of photos that a comp of mine set me from Tulancingo they are kind of old but that’s alright. You can look at them but I want you to download them and save them for me por favor!!!
Today we played water balloon dodge ball for a zone activity. It was alright, but I’m kind of getting sick of immature missionaries that don’t follow the rules in the mission field even in a silly game of dodge ball, but whatever that’s alright.
On Saturday we had a major problem as there was a ward activity and I didn’t want to go. I don’t feel like ward activities are for us so I told the other elders in the ward that we weren’t going to go unless President gave us permission. That was something that I thought he would never do. But I think President is getting kind of lax in his last few days here because he said yes. There was a sister that was bugging us to go, because she wanted us to be in her skit. The party was supposed to start at 7 but we’re in Mexico so it started at 8 and 8 turned to nine and nine to 9:15 and I’m freaking out because the skit she wanted us to be part of hadn’t passed yet. At this point I was about to tell the sister no because we had to go, but Landon knows how Latin culture is rules aren’t very important. At 9:20 the other elders get to the church the ones that are in the other ward. They asked me what I was doing. I felt like asking them what they were doing, but I was in between a rock and a hard place. Ah it was terrible, so I’m at the church at 9:23 with my whole district with me. I thought my head was about to explode! So then Elder Tapis goes, "Get the bishop to call pres!!" I couldn’t believe what he was saying, but whatever so we called the bishop over and told him the plan. He looked at us and said, “it doesn’t matter elders just get home a few minutes late!" Wow, I couldn’t believe it, but we kept begging him and he called and at 9:25 pres gave us permission to get home 30 min late. What a relief it was terrible! I was so stressed I could hear the sound of President’s voice echoing in my ear, “be an example for your missionaries how can you expect them to be obedient if you’re not!" Ah, it was horrible so we got home and everything turned out alright. That night my comp got kind of depressed. It turns out that he was a little insecure so he felt really bad for some stuff that happen. Silly things like he lost a game the ward was playing and they made him jump on one foot around the circle or something stupid, and he felt really dumb and thought everybody was making fun of him. He’s kind of a softy, but he’ll make it through. I think the whole racism thing really has him worried. Who knows I talked to a lot of people that hated the U.S and it never really bothered me. Actually some lady told me a while back that we "the U.S." kill her Mexican brothers. I laughed ha-ha it was kind of funny.
I will finish by answering moms questions.
What do you do differently as a DL? I have meetings with the zl´s every once in a while and I have to do 24 hour divisions with the elders in my district that’s it.
You mentioned in your letter that you teach the 5 principles, is this what you teach to all members to keep them active or only less actives?
All members. You need to remember that here nobody ia all that active. Hardly anybody actually reads their scriptures and the manuals of the church. So I think that’s why there is some funky stuff that goes on, but this ward is better than other wards. I had wards that never ordered sacrament cups and just stole them from another ward.
Do you always teach with a member present? To investigators we can teach, but they say we should only teach with members. It’s better so the investigators have friends at church.
How is your teaching going during the day? How often do you teach? Average a day like 4. We teach a lot of appointment that aren’t set and others just on the fly. Here in Mexico you can go to peoples homes and hang out, and its cool. You don’t always have to advise people that you’re going to go over you can just show up! It’s kind of cool so we teach like 4 a day that’s pretty good, but it’s kind of a joke because what else are we doing all day. When we have 9 hours a day where are the other 5??? Who knows I ask myself the same thing.
How do the less activities treat you?
Amazing there are 2 types of less actives the ones that love the missionaries and the ones that don’t. The ones that don’t hide or don’t answer the door when we go by. The ones that like us try to feed us and love that we come over, but never go to church. They feel that their spiritual need is fulfilled by the missionaries that come by. They always say that they’re going to go to church, but never do.
Anyway that’s about it thanks for everything! I got your Mormon Messages CD, but it was messed up. I couldn’t get it to play on a normal DVD player, so I gave it to a member and he converted it and gave it back to me. Now it works!
