Letter from Cameron --an answer to prayers

This week on Tuesday I was made a trainer and my new comp is Elder Sosa. He is from the DF. He is waiting for his visa to go to Argentina. While he is here I will be training him. I think we will be together two transfers because there are like 20 that are waiting to go to Argentina and some have 3 months or more. It’s pretty cool and is a lot of work, but it is fun and he is pretty funny. He worries about a lot of stuff and that cracks me up. He was worried the other day that he was going to run out of money, and that we were going to die at the end of the month. Also, when he was in the bathroom he yelled out my name to check if I was still in the house. I guess he was worried that I was going to leave or something. Kind of funny, but all in all he’s a great guy. I have a lot of fun with him and he is very curious and kind. He has great parents and he is the 4th generation of members in his family --that’s amazing for Mexico. I love him, he’s great and he loves to run. So we went running in the morning and I about died. I hadn’t run in a year and a half. I was super out of shape. He wants to go more, but who knows what will happen I might just faint in the middle of the street.

This week has gone really good except for Sunday. On Sunday there were about 40 people in church that’s terrible, so we visited a few members to see what happened and a lot of them had been to late night parties and didn’t get up in the morning. I don’t really understand how your testimony could be so weak that a worldly party could keep you from renewing your covenants, but that’s how it goes some times. I have been thinking a lot about why less actives are less actives and what is the key to staying in the church. I have decided that it is personal scripture study and other things, but more than anything just like it says in Helaman 5:12 if we are not cemented the devils whirlwinds will tear us down.  I think it’s Helaman 15:7 the scriptures lead us to have a change of heart. I think that’s the words I translated from Spanish because I never study in English. But the change of heart is what we would have when we get baptized, but we can lose that change of heart after a while because the church becomes the same old thing over a time, unless we are studying and finding new things every day. We have been working hard on getting people to read the Book of Mormon. Btw Elder Morales sent me an email today apologizing for what happened with me. I thought that was pretty cool. It would have been cooler if he apologized to me about 6 weeks ago, but I guess I can’t complain.

I got 3 letters from grandma and granddad this week. I love the letters they keep me updated on Hendricks family news. It was quite interesting that grandma told me a story from the mission and so did granddad the same one the next week. I’m not saying it’s bad it was actually quite interesting because I heard the same story from two points of view and you can see the differences in writing patterns between the two. Grandma writes with exclamation points and what not and grandpa just tells the facts. It is kind of cool.

This week I bought what we needed to make oat pancakes. All you need is 1 cup of flour 2 cups of oats and 2 eggs and a little bit of butter and you have some pancakes. They’re not the best I have eaten but they’re healthy, so I’m down with that. Anyway my comp is super animated and wants to work a lot. He was kind of sheltered as a kid, but he has a great heart. I have thought that he is a lot like the missionary that dad trained in the mission. From what I have heard from him they seem similar. Anyway I love him and he’s excited and filled with love for the people here. The fact that he has to wait for his visa hasn’t got him down at all. Pretty cool. I guess your prayers were answered. Anyway if you could send Mormon messages in Spanish that would be cool and if you can find it I think it’s called "The Touch of the Master’s Hand" in Spanish it’s "la mano del maestro" in Spanish. Any other Mormon made videos that I could teach with that might be found on YouTube. Anyway thanks for everything. Later

Elder Hendricks
