This week was very interesting. Monday Elder Sebastian had about 1000 people he wanted to go say goodbye to which was kind of funny. Tuesday we all went and hit up Mexico! We got there late so we didn’t really have time to hit up the street food. In Mexico by the temple there is a bunch of street food that is super delish!
There are these one things called bombasos --they’re like sandwiches but better it’s kind of hard to explain it. I was going to buy a simplified hymn book because the ward wants me to teach a piano class every Sunday. I figured it might be a good way to find new investigators if people bring their friends, but I’m going to say they have to come to 3 hours of church and then you can take the class. HA! We got permission from president to do it so hopefully it turns out to be a win instead of a loss of time.
Anyways when we started working at night on Tuesday I immediately noticed that my new companion "Elder Garcia"(he has 3 more months than me and is from Veracruz like Elder Sebastian) didn’t really have the fire that Elder Sebastian had and he really relies on me to do a lot of the work --well most of it. So I decided well I might as well take the chance and run with it. We worked and we worked and we worked but at the end of the week the numbers just weren’t as pretty as they were with Elder Sebastian, so I was a little down. I started to read The Book of Mormon Sunday morning before church and I read Jacob 5. I’m reading the whole thing in Spanish its kind of funny because I cant speed read in Spanish like I can in English so I really feel like I get more out of it even though it’s taking longer. But I read verse 41 that says.
" 41 Y aconteció que el Señor de la viña lloró, y dijo al siervo:
¿Qué más pude haber hecho por mi viña?" It was really sweet and I thought about that and I thought about how I felt and it was the same! I felt like I was about to cry and I wanted to know what more I could have done for my area. It’s so hard for people that haven’t gone on missions to understand this, but when you work as hard as you can and nobody wants to come to church it’s like your kid that doesn’t want to choose the right or the bishop with the broken ward. You know what they need but they don’t seem to have a desire and as hard as you try to put a desire in their hearts sometimes it’s just not their time...so I said a prayer asking Heavenly Father to forgive me of my faults this week and the things that I didn’t do right and to bless the people that we had talked to that they would feel a desire to come to church. And what happened! A family came to church and a member brought a friend and another inactive family came. Their kids aren’t members and one of them was supposed to get baptized this week but he took the interview and came out with doubts still, so he will get baptized this Sunday. So out of all the week that didn’t go very well we really did well on Sunday, and that was nice. I guess I just need to count my blessings.
Anyway we can Skype this Sunday I just asked the people here if they could help us out with cameras and microphones and they said yes. Hopefully they will have it ready for Sunday.
Anyway this week they cut the electricity from our apartment. Who knows why, we just pay the rent and then the lady is supposed to pay the electricity. I guess she didn’t pay it we called her and we sent her a text but she didn’t pick up. She doesn’t seem to want to respond. What’s funny is there is a vacant apartment across from us that has electricity and so we borrowed an extension cord from a member and plugged it in so that we can plug in the fridge. By the time we got the extension cord it was too late and all the food had gone bad. It smelled terrible, so I just took everything out and threw it away. We couldn’t find a member with an extension cord until Sunday and the lights went out on Wednesday night so everything had already melted. I don’t know if you remember my old district leader from Pachuca Elder Riedreynoso, but he is a zone leader here now with Elder Nelson. He told me just to keep the fridge shut and the stuff will keep for a couple of days.....I thought his advice was kind of funny but whatever it already went bad, but it wasn’t that much food. Anyway my companion took a picture of me ironing my shirt in the other apartment. I will send it. We can basically manage now because we have candles to use at night for light, power for the fridge, and to charge the cell phone and other stuff. Basically we can wait it out without any trouble until the lights come back on. It’s actually kind of fun at night planning with candles.
Today we went to Huasca it’s like 30 min away it was pretty cool. There are a bunch of cool like cheap things you can buy and what not. It was really sweet. We went with the zone leaders as were kind of friends I guess that’s what happens when you eat together almost every day.
Huasca was sweet but there is not that much to talk about when it comes to Huasca. I think I will leave you guys here anyway. I’m pretty sure we can Skype Sunday but we will have to check to make sure. The lady here just told me that they don’t have microphones. So I will have to look for something this week, but don’t worry we are going to make it happen. Anyway thanks for the letter and the prayers and I will talk to you guys via Skype Sunday probably at 5:30 or so. I hope that’s ok.
