Letter from Cameron

April 16 2012

Questions from home are in italics.

Does it ever rain there?

Yes..every once in a while. It rained last night but it’s more of a desert rain--like Utah.

Have you tried Mexican root beer or would that violate the word of wisdom?

There is no such thing as Mexican root beer. that’s fully an American thing.

How is Ana doing?  Is her husband progressing?

Ana is good. The other day she got kind of mad because she wants us to come by her house more often but we have other things to do. She is kind of in love with Elder Sebastian its kind of weird. But her husband is coming to church but he is just is too lazy to read the Book of Mormon. He told us when he gets home late at night and he is tired he would rather watch TV or something. We will just have to wait a week and see what happens with all that.

Do you find you learn new words everyday or are you now just retaining what you have learned?

Here is the learning cycle-- you see or study a word. You ask your companion what it means or you just figure it out from context. Then you forget the word...then you hear it a couple times more and you remember it then you use it once or twice with difficulty then it falls into your vocabulary.

How is your DL doing? Is he with the missionary you and Elder Sebastian were suppose to be with?

The DL is with Elder Bacab the missionary that we were in a trio with.

Are you still playing the piano?

Elder Nelson plays to. The Zone Leader also plays but he doesn’t play very good...well he plays kind of like me so we split them up and play them.

I heard that you guys hit up Kansas City for the temple open house. Some rich guy in my ward is going to go to the dedication. He told me he knows 5 different languages including English...I talked to him in English...I think he might only know 4 languages. I guess that’s kind of hypocritical and judgmental especially because people here just barely started understanding me.

Wow! Go Chicago! I didn’t know they were doing so hot! How is the big Derek Rose!

Anyway this week has been pretty basic...the miracle didn’t come through. We passed by her house like 2 times a day but never found her. That’s sometimes the bummer. It’s hard to find people home so we can teach them. Many times appointments fall. There are two more weeks in this cycle so we will see what we can pull together. Anyway the bummer is that only 2 people came to church. Our area is huge so we are asking members to pass by for the investigators on Sunday morning.

Many told me that they forgot...that was kind of a bummer but of the 2 that came one has a baptismal date for this week and the other for the next week. Anyway I’m a little worried about Elder Sebastian he told me yesterday that he thinks he is going to leave this area in two weeks and he doesn’t want to look for new investigators. I asked him if he came to Mexico to baptize or to edify the work of the lord. Then he apologized a little later. Right now he thinks that he will leave and I will stay here to train a new elder or something. But I don’t really care what’s going to happen in 3 weeks.

Oh I forgot-- I got a bunch of letters and a package from grandma and granddad Hendricks!!! Super cool with Nike dry fit socks!! They’re super sweet and they will never get holes like the other ones I have because there really thick but at the same time they suck the sweat away from your feet so it doesn’t get all nasty. Anyway I have never been so excited to get socks in my whole life! I hope the other package gets here if you send packages you have to put the Virgin Mary on them or the name of the church. if you don’t you have about a 70% chance it will get here but if you put something on it it’s much better I have seen packages with just tons of Virgin Mary stickers one them it’s really funny. I bet dad isn’t too hot on the idea but it’s more of an investment then a religious thing. But that’s alright.

Anyway that’s about it. Hopefully we can find this lady that wants to be baptized but she didn’t come to church and is never at her house. But that’s alright.

Elder Hendricks
