Cameron letter February 20

February 20 2012

This week has been pretty exciting...more or less I guess I’ll put it in to the days of the week. This week was pretty normal nothing too exciting but we bought stuff to make French toast I will try to send some pictures but my computer is acting up. That’s just how it goes here in Mexico. But I bought eggs, milk, vanilla, powdered sugar and syrup! All at Wal-Mart because the stores on the corner don't have syrup and powdered sugar. That's not really that popular. But I forgot how to make grandmas crunchy French toast...she should send me the recipe with her new computer!

Tuesday in the morning we ate French toast. It was delicious. It really reminded me of those Saturday mornings early eating French toast as a kid--those are memorable! But then I went to the bathroom without a toilet seat and it brought me all back to reality! HA HA no but really.

I can buy a toilet seat and get reimbursed if I want but....I lack the desire to find one and buy one and submit all the junk plus it’s a waste of time there are more important things to do.

Anyways we worked really hard this week on Sunday we put a goal to have 14 new investigators this week we had 6 but hey we had faith.

That’s what I love about Spencer’s letters they are filled with faith. I remember the MTC those were great days so is the field but in the MTC there is nothing that gets you down like it does in the field. For example no investigator tells you that they don't want to talk to you anymore in the MTC.

But as for the rest this week I was the ward pianist! And I played 3 songs...perfectly...ok there where errors but it went alright. I guess this is when I start to regret not practicing enough...or I guess the moment when I realize I should have done what mom said. Either way it was pretty good. Good thing a practiced a lot with Lujan. Ok my comp. Sebastian has been a member 10 years about his dad is the bishop and he knows a lot of the gospel. He really wants to work and baptize he is the best comp I have ever had. And I am getting more of an opportunity to teach so I’m happy. Today we had a zone activity which was better than the last one we had with my other zone. This one they blindfolded the senior comp and the junior comp had to guide the senior all the way up this mountain type thing! And we won. Why? Because we had 2 things-- First Sebastian wasn't scared and the other he trusted me. He was running almost full straight with a blind fold it was hilarious I just told him the follow my voice and I ran backwards up the mountain and he followed me like a champ. That was pretty cool.

Anyway it was a great time then after we went to the church and ate pizza it was delicious. Mondays nobody feeds us. Mom said that she thought it was great that somebody was feeding her son Monday night but unfortunately no but all the other days we do. It’s just its hard to eat that day because it’s during your prep time. Usually we eat in the morning some cereal or something and then eat a big meal during the day and then grab a snack at night at the house during nightly planning. Oh ya my sweater got jacked today. I left it at the bottom of the hill during the zone activity and somebody stole it. I was the Utah state one I took no big loss but other people left whole backpacks filled with credit cards and money and cameras and all of it got taken.  Anyway hopefully my sweater will be well used by a cold Mexican. Oh ya so last night I was talking to this guy before a family night. They have these family night things that we do here where an active family will invite a inactive family and we teach a lesson to everybody...anyway last night I was talking to him and he knows a whole lot of the gospel. Then he asked me what my dad does for a living. And I told him. Then he was like oh you should know a whole bunch of the gospel then. And I told him that I really didn't know that much and I should know more for the blessing I have been given for having a father that knows so much. Then we started talking. The reason I told him that was because I really started believing that I didn't know anything. Because I was always lost in the language. But we started talking about things and sharing scriptures and talking. He has the same problem as me we both can never remember where the scriptures are in the book of Mormon but we know somewhere it says this or that. Anyway after a very deep doctrine talk he looked at me and told me this.. You know a lot your father taught you well. What I think is the problem is you just haven't incorporated your knowledge that you know in English in to Spanish. Then he told me don't learn everything over again have faith and tell your investigators what they need to hear. Not just what you have heard other elders say to investigators and through that you will be able to learn Spanish even faster. But don't learn Spanish so you can be district leader or zone leader learn it so you can build the kingdom of god....I was stunned.

He didn't think that I had bad motives to learn Spanish but I guess he has seen a lot of elders who what to learn Spanish for the wrong reasons. Anyway it was something I really needed I have been struggling lately with feeling like I didn't know the gospel as well as I should. So this really helped out. He also told me that when I get the language I will be a very powerful missionary. I told him thanks and I was really moved by what he said and helped me realize that I do know something and I do have something to give.

Anyway it was really cool and really helped me have a stronger desire to work.

Whelp that’s about all thanks guys

Elder Hendricks
