Cameron’s Letter February 27 2012
It’s funny I feel like I talk a bunch about the culture hear but I'm starting to realize that a picture is worth a thousand words or maybe a walk down the street would be better. Well here is the deal the food is different in every part of Mexico in the United States you have grocery stores and your home depot big stores like this that always have the same names it’s called a Fracises I don't know how to spell that but they are really popular. In the United States the name of the store has great significance but here now there’s the Internet on the corner, the Paneria on the other corner and the fruit stand down the street. The only store that has the same name is Bodega Arrura which is just a stupid name for Wal-Mart. All the stores have names but nobody knows them only where there at. I don’t know it’s hard to explain but because of this the food is very different in every part of Mexico. Elder Sebastian ate a lot of fish in his house because he is close to the ocean. Its culture and Mexico has a lot of it....a lot. In all honesty we are kind of a boring country where safety is first on the list of everything. But that's alright we will live longer. Ask Landon about the culture of Brazil. Mexico I think is just more populated. And the food is different. Of course there are a lot of things different but the culture of Brazil is closer to the culture of Mexico then the culture of Mexico is to the culture of the United States.
So this week we worked super hard...like really hard but the people in Tulancingo are kind of closed and don't like to talk. This area is known to be hard. oh French toast is known here people eat it so Elder Sebastian loves it. Which is kind of cool. It’s just super easy to make with 4 eggs a little milk and vanilla and its cheap you can buy 6 eggs for less than a dollar.
Bread is pretty cheap too and I bought powdered sugar for pretty cheap.
Anyway the work is really slow right now so there really is not that much to talk about we contacted like all week and prayed with more faith that I have ever prayed in my life but we are still not finding things sometimes I wonder if the Lord wants people to join the church here. But I guess people have their agency the lord wants everybody to join the church. Just some people aren't ready. So that's how it is this is the first week I haven't had a baptism in a month. I was going to send pictures of them but there is something wrong with my card the camera is fine and it takes pictures just fine but it’s when I attach them its gets all funky and the computer crashes. Oh they still have tamales here but Elder Lujan told me the lady keeps coming by the house looking for me in my old area because I would buy one from her like 4 times a week! Its kind of funny.
Moms letter was really cool it seems like she has been reading a lot of conference talks and I have been listening to a bunch because my comp is trying to learn English so he listens to all the talks and reads them in Spanish and English. He actually picks it up pretty quick. it’s just hard to learn a language when you don’t use it every day. Oh ya I had to teach the principles of the gospel class on Sunday and I was thinking about it all week kind of worried. I felt like grandma she was always kind of worried about her Sunday school class. (Count your blessings grandma your class is in a language you are fluent in) So I keep on thinking and thinking when was the last time I taught a class solo and it want alright?? I couldn’t remember. I just keep thinking about the time I taught principles of the gospel in Logan and it went terrible. I taught for like 10 min and then I was out of stuff to say and people where laughing. So that was kind of hard to get over and I keep thinking that it was going to be the same. And to be honest I was pretty nervous. And what happened...it went alright it wasn’t the greatest lesson but everybody knew what a prophet was after (that’s what the lesson was on) the 3 other elders kind of helped me out. The moral of the story is this: be humble because if your not the Lord will do it for you. Right when I thought I was humbled enough I got assigned to teach the class. If there’s one thing I’m learning here in México its 1.humility and 2.patience. Whelp I think that about it thanks Elder Hendricks
