January 14, 2013

This week was great! On Sunday the stake president came to talk to the ward about the work of salvation-- I think that's what it’s called in English-- but he spoke really well and very calm. I felt a lot of respect for him. He asked the question "How many of you members don’t have a calling?" and 10 people raised their hands up. Then he talks about how president Hinckley asked that everybody have a calling, a friend and be nutritioned (nourished) by the good word. More or less that is what he said but that’s me translating though. Anyway it was really great. Without saying anything very directly he kind of gave the bishop a kick in the rear.  But the bishop does have an excuse because he doesn’t have a computer in the church because somebody got a hold of some church keys and robbed the computer. He is kind of backed up on tithing and what not.

What do you do at zone conferences? Sit and listen. Some of the time they are sweet like when Elder Daniel Johnson came. That was killer but sometimes elders are given time to teach a principle that ends up not being very well prepared.

What kinds of messages are given? Do you feel pumped up? What are goals you have set? Goals are like 20 lessons with les actives and 10 with member, and baptisms every week.

We are reactivating a lot I can’t really talk about all the less actives there are. If there was a really cool story I would tell you.

Anyway this week I was listening to some talks that Dad sent to me. That was really cool. There was a fireside by Elder Jeffery R. Holland about the importance of teaching with the spirit and helping the spiritually blind really see and the spiritually lame really walk. It really hit me. I think it was called "Therefore What?" I connected well with the talk because I thought what do I need to do so that I make the lame walk and make the blind see what is it that I need to make great kings fall to the ground do what Alma and Amulek did. It says in the scripture that they had studied the scriptures and dedicated much time to fasting and prayer so I figured that’s what I needed to do. So this past Sunday I fasted. My companion kind of made fun of me for it but that’s just him—everything’s kind of a joke. But I felt good about it and I feel like fasting really is something that helps us. Anyway it also was cool how he talked about the commandment to not teach if we don’t have the spirit that was kind of cool too. Actually all the talks that dad gives me are pretty cool. I learn a lot from the talks I listen to. Things are good and we are working hard just keep on keepin on. Anyway that’s about it.
