January 9 2012

This week to be quite honest has really stunk. We worked really hard this week and everything was basically amazing until Sunday.

Tuesday we went to Mexico (the state) and into the city because I had to sign some papers to be legal in México so we basically lost a whole day of work but at least it was fun.

It was the first time I had ridden in a metro in Mexico and believe me I couldn’t believe my eyes. I knew it would be bad but not this bad so after an hour and a half bus ride to México and a taxi we arrive at the metro station which is huge it’s not just 1 or 2 different metros there are a ton because we were at like a central station or something. So we arrive at our station in the platform where the metro arrives and there are groups of people in packs waiting and to be honest I couldn’t figure out why. But then the metro came and I noticed that each of the groups of people lined up with one of the doors on the metro. Then when the door opens it’s like a fight to get off and a fight to get on. Everybody’s pushing a shoving- it’s crazy! Then I watched as one guy with his feet and hands in the metro but his whole body sticky out because he’s being push out of the metro with the doors closing on him do this crazy looking move where he basically put his feet on the inside of the door and his hands and just pushed as hard as he can to get in the metro and he made it. So that’s good I guess. I don’t know if you can imagine that or not but it was pretty cool. We just got on the next one but your face is shoved up against other people’s faces its pretty wild. Anyway we got to México and hit up some tiangies before because we got there 30 min early oh ya we woke up at 3:30 am to get there by 8am that’s when they told us to arrive. ok tiangies are like farmers markets in the street but they sell a whole bunch of stuff some times food sometimes just....well junk everything from NES controllers to barbacoa tacos! Its wild so we ate some barabacoa and met this member there whose son is going to Chile on his mission and she paid for us which was sweet! The problem is because we went on this trip we don’t have any money the busses are like 150 pesos for 2 people one way which is like 12dollars but in México that’s a lot. So our trip we are getting reimbursed for but right now while where waiting to be reimbursed we are sinking poor! Oh well members feed us so where not gonna die but it kinda stinks having an empty fridge! This is like the first time in my life I have not had food or money! It’s kind of an interesting feeling. But all of that is not the reason that this week was bad. So after Tuesday we went to work and worked crazy hard teaching and contacting we had a miracle Thursday we contacted only 8 people and 5 wanted to be taught it was pretty cool. So we added 4 new investigators so at this point I was really hopeful we would start to see some more investigators at church! So Sunday morning we went to work we passed by every progressing and new investigator! And I thought at the least we would have 4 at church and 14 at most. How many came! 3. Incredibly disappointed! so Elder Lujan and I in our frustration decided to drop a whole bunk after 1 more visit if you look and the board there is a little 1 by the name this means one more visit and if you don’t want to progress then where going to drop you. the miracle we had with finding 4 new people in about an hour shows us that people want to hear the gospel and its of no use to waste time on old investigators if they don’t come to church in the first 2 weeks there a waste of our time. Its sounds harsh but it’s what we are going to have to start doing because we have to many unprogressing investigators.

Karina-still on vacation

E.Campa-we where supposed to baptize him this week but he is still smoking he told us he stopped but i guess not. So we gave him a blessing and we are hoping for better luck this week for him.

Patty Perez-she is the same as last week we are going to drop her soon.

Ma. Elanla family-they are ready for baptism but lied to us about being on vacation. They told us they are on vacation and won’t be back for 3 weeks. but we but the security guard in there neighborhood who is our friend and an investigator of other elders (because he doesn’t live in  our area but works in our area) told us they have been coming and going just like normal every day. And one of the kids saw us in the neighborhood and tried to hide! Which was fun so we went and talked to him. I was kinda mad so I asked him how the vacation was. And he told me it was fun with a really stupid look on his face. that happened on Sunday.

Cristina Garcia-a very humble woman with a kid she’s new. She has a whole load of problems she’s super smart and is well educated but she had every thing stolen from her by her family while she was away working in Indiana in the US for 10 years. When she came back all of her stuff was gone and her family had taken off with it. She is crazy poor and were gonna try to help her find a job and what not because she has a lot of knowledge she used to work for some cable channel and made a lot of money but the jealousy of her family lead them to rob her. She went to court but basically lost her whole family against her word. So that turned out terrible.

Nelly-is hard core catholic but says she will read and pray about the book of Mormon.

Agustina- she’s gold she went to the ward activity Saturday and church by herself without us passing by to pick her up or nothing. She has friends at church already. And is praying a reading She’s 74 and walks like 20 miles a day or something like that.

Gabriela-nothing new nonprogressing.

Edith-really neat family we gave them the first lesson and they said they would read but everybody says that. we passed by on Sunday but she was shopping or something.

Estaban & Juan Manuel- they want to learn but not believe they won’t pray or read the book of Mormon but they came to church so that’s good I guess. Juan’s an older guy he is like a Mexican version of Granddad Hendricks really its kind of funny.

Pako-this is the drunk guy we found on the street. He doesn’t drink anymore loves the word of wisdom but doesn’t want anymore nor wants to attend church he has a really anti-American attitude so its getting harder and harder for me to work with him. We will probably end up dropping him. at least he doesn’t drink anymore!

Heberto-where going to drop him because he doesn’t show up for appointments and doesn’t come to church. So one more visit and we will probably drop him.

So for a lot its one more visit and if they don’t want to progress well we will give them our number and tell them to call us when they have read and prayed and found out the church is true. We have way to many investigators anyways.

Well for questions I haven’t been robbed missionary’s only get robbed in the México city and I’m not there so don’t worry.

The burning of the bosom is true pops! ha-ha but the hard part is getting the investigator to read so they receive that burning! haha but I understand what you mean and all. I don’t know why they put it that way on the radio we don’t ever tell investigators that they will receive that. Just the "conocimento que esta es la verdad" anyway I think that’s it for me this week talk to you later.

Elder Hendricks

Oh ya we found this store in the city that was called Super Americano and Kosher! ha-ha it had life cereal and herseys cocoa so I bought both. Cocoa is impossible to find and good peanut butter I think now I have everything to make no bake cookies! YES! The bummer is the peanut butter here tastes like junk...or so they say I have never tried it.
