Ok I copied the questions over so I could answer them I realized after I left the computer I didn’t tell you anything. I am in Hidalgo!! It’s a state of Mexico in a city called Provedencia our area is pretty big so we walk a lot and ride the Combies also in our area is Pachullia i think that’s how you spell it but its way bigger than Providencia I think. More on those later.
It’s a big place, lots of people but it’s still rural at the same time. I guess it’s just not super dense more of a suburb of Mexico City I guess you could say. The ward is decent probably like 100 people which isn’t huge but it fills the chapel. Well here our church is the bomb. It’s like the nicest building around town. It’s totally tile though they have absolutely no carpet here I haven’t seen any.
My comp knows some English if I were to just speak in English he would understand but he doesn’t like English so we speak Spanish which I don’t really care I need to learn the language so that’s fine with me. They require English here in Mexico everybody has to take it.. Is Parker still taking Spanish?? He should we will see if he can be as good as me when i get home....ok maybe not. It’s different when the only thing you do all day is try to learn the gospel and Spanish. ok
Food
The food is amazing! It’s way good and it’s all Mexican they never really eat anything but Mexican. But it can be meat, noodles, asparagus onion I don’t know. They eat a bunch but no matter what you eating it’s Mexican and there are tortillas on the table and they’re not flour tortillas but I’m not quite sure they’re corn either I don’t know what they are or maybe the corn tortillas we have in America are just cheap and these are high quality. Ok food is super important here-- Mexicans love food and fried food they make this super fatty but amazingly delicious breaded meat they deep fry it its kind of like fried chicken but on smashed meat I can’t remember what the meat is called but it’s super popular.
Travel
Some people have cars if you’re rich. Others just ride taxis and combies which is what we ride. They are big vans mostly Nissan urvan´s (?) if you look up on Google you can probably find a picture of a Mexican combie anyways they drive killer fast here and the combies go even faster the faster they drive the more money they make and they’re all over the city. On Thursday I was in a Combie with like 18 people give or take a few that’s crazy I was standing up and my companion and I where just smashed together.
People
People are super nice very giving it doesn’t really matter who you are they will give especially if you are a missionary and most of the giving is food. You hear about how America has a weight problem with a lot of people being overweight but I think it’s worse in Mexico. They love their food and eat a lot. Oh ya I’m like a giant here. I’m stinking taller than most people in Mexico which is weird especially because I’m only 5’9 “.
The work
We are teaching tons of people and everybody and there dog will commit to baptism but not everybody will actually follow through. We had our first baptism and I have a picture but I forgot my camera again.
Also everyone here is catholic so they all have a foundation on Christ in some way which is wonderful. I love the Catholic church it’s like the triple A´s for the Mormons in the major leagues. They get them all prepped and we take over and get them to come to our church. It’s a great system!! Oh our baptism was this kid about as old as Parker who my comp had been teaching for a while before I came. Anyways I will send pictures next week. Oh one of the American elders came over to our house and was coveting all my American stuff like degree deodorant and my Disani water bottle they don’t have stuff like that here. Disani is an American thing. I dont know why he liked it so much it’s just some plastic.
this week we got cell phones which is kind of cool and we have been working way harder this week. On Monday I had a talk with my comp and told him I really want to work hard and spend less time at member’s houses and we just got a letter from the president on that topic of only staying at member’s houses for 20 min no longer. So maybe that will help. Lujan is great he is a good teacher but he really loves to talk and talk to anyone which is a help and a hinder-- a help because he is always finding new investigators but a hinder because he loves spending time with members talking. I haven’t felt a touch of sickness other that the sickness of eating too much. It’s funny I’m either super hungry or super full-- never in between. Also we teach a lot of inactives the inactiving is crazy here. Some people don’t even know there members. I guess the old mission pres had a goal to baptize 1000 in a month which is crazy and they made the goal but it came at great costs. Missionaries started doing crazy things to get baptisms like going to grave yards and copying names. so that’s kind of wild. Anyway things are great I hand washed a bunch of clothes today at 7am! I thought we used laundry mats but I was totally wrong --they don’t have those here haha. It’s a hand washing....I know understand why Landon kissed the washing machine when he got home from Brazil. Hand washing is hard work. I did it for 3 hours! Anyway nice to hear about the fam and even better to hear the NBA will have a season. I was worried! Ok maybe not super worried but what is Lebron gonna do with one year of a lost opportunity to get a ring? That’s his soul desire right! Anyway have a good one
